Lenten Mission 2012

Lenten Mission: A Lenten Pilgrimage with Jesus

Find your "holy place" this Lent by joining St. Joseph on the Rio Grande for our annual mission from March 12 - March 15, 2012. Focus on the meaning of Lent and find that special place for yourself. All parishioners, families and friends are invited.

Feed the Hungry

Let’s feed the multitudes as Jesus did! The Loaves & Fish Ministry will be resuming its collection of non-perishable foods for the less fortunate starting December 31. We ask that each parishioner bring one non-perishable food item per week. For the months of January through March the Ministry suggests the following items: Rice, Beans and Cereal. The non-perishable foods can be placed in the blue bins marked with the Loaves & Fish symbols.

Friday Family Rosary

The next Friday Family Rosary hosted by the Knights of Columbus will be on December 9th. It will be a recurring event on the second Friday of each month. Each month will have a different theme. Please join us.

Parish Office closed for staff meeting

The parish office will be closed for staff meetings at 8:30am on the first Wednesday of the month. The office will reopen at 10:30am.

Eucharistic Ministers

PriestEucharist_BW Eucharistic Ministers or Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are called by God to become servants to other members of the Body of Christ. The function of an Extraordinary Minister is to assist the priest in distributing the true presence of Christ to other members during the sacrifice of the Mass.

When we use the word "Extraordinary" it is a term meant to distinguish these ministers from the "ordinary" ministers of Communion--priests and deacons.

Who may serve as a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?

Must be 16 years of age or older and have received all of the Initiation Sacraments - Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
If married, the marriage must be a valid Catholic marriage.
Must be a practicing Catholic who is a registered parishioner and who shows a deep reverence for and devotion to the Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.

For Ash Wednesday

I need 2 more EM's for the 4:30 pm Mass.

Please remember that not only will you be distributing Communion you will also be distributing ashes. Please use one of the prayers below when distributing ashes.

Either one of these prayers can be used when distributing ashes:

Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel.
Remember, man, you are dust and to dust you will return

BIG Welcome for new Eucharistic Ministers!

Let's give a BIG WELCOME to the following parishioners that have joined the Eucharistic Minister Ministry. For the 1st quarter they will be helping out as backups if we run short at any of the Masses, then starting with the 2nd quarter they will be scheduled at their particular Mass.

Special thanks to Helena Milligan and Marian Romero for doing the training for the new Eucharistic Ministers, I couldn't do it without their help!
